I got this in my e-mail today and maybe a few of you already know about this, I thought I would post it here to maybe get a wider reach. It is from my Uncle Ernie McLean:
Hank Cramer is a U.S. Army Veteran who spent a lot of time entertaining our troops. He is also my 2nd Cousin by his marriage to Kit Mc Lean of Winthrop Washington. If you would care to get some of his CD,s Write him at :
Sincerely:
Ernie Mc Lean
Heads up!
I received an e-mail last night stating that there's a badly wounded soldier at Fort Sam Houston, Texas who's having a birthday this week, and would appreciate some birthday cards and greetings.
I was a little skeptical at first that it might be an Internet hoax, so I called Fort Sam first thing this morning and spoke at length with the Fisher House manager. (Fisher House is adjacent to the hospital, it's a residential facility for recuperating soldiers and family members).
Sergeant Daniel Thornhill has been in recovery there for two years from an IED blast in Iraq. He lost both legs in the explosion, and was burned over 50% of his body. He still has his arms, but the manager states "one is in better shape than the other". His parents are very concerned because his morale is quite low right now, and he has had almost no visitors at all. He turns 28 years old this week.
A birthday card, a note, flowers, a CD or DVD -- anything would help. Here's a young man who's lost more than most of us can imagine in service to our country, and a few kind words from well-wishers and fellow veterans would boost his morale. The manager says he's a "typical young man" and loves electronics, so any gifts along those lines would also be much appreciated.
Here's his address:
Sgt. Daniel Thornhill
Fort Sam Houston Fisher House
3623 George C. Beach Rd
Fort Sam Houston, Texas 78234
Thanks! Keep Daniel and his comrades in your thoughts on this Memorial Day weekend.
Hank Cramer
